Lovely picture, nice light and very evocative of what was once a thriving industry. I spent some time in Cwm Penmachno and that too is steeped in the remnants of the past. My award.

Alf, What a brooding old site you found here. And, you photographed it perfectly. Most apt for Halloween. My shoes are muddy looking at the wet well lit path. I really like the way you hid the sun behind the tree - wonderful image, Alf.

NORM Sincere Thanks for you thoughtful feedback and kind words, much appreciated! I have not visited Cwm Penmachno, I must look it up,. These places are just full of atmosphere and wonder!

IAN Thank you very much for your interest and comments!

ARNE Thank you so much!

NIK Many Thanks, I find I am drawn back to this place time and again, it is such a haunting place.

LARRY Thank you so much! It is a fascinating place when you think of the family's that actually lived up here, no gas, or electricity and working down slate mines for 12 - 14 hours a day! It can be a bleak place, but a touch of sunshine transforms the place.

Long time since I have been to Cwmorthin. I remember the first time we visited the lower barracks had at least 4 chimneys and the railway line was still in place but this was back in the 1970's. Must find old B&W negs out. Thanks for showing.

JOHN.........Many Thanks for your interest . There are still bits of the railways line, mostly overgrown now and the lower barracks are still standing. I also visited the upper barracks..........forgot just how steep that slope is!
