Treasures Of The Trenches

By Sezz
Taken in the trenches of the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment at the War & Peace Show!
Just a bit o'baccy and a drop of Rum... that's if you were very, very lucky...

The pipe I think, belongs to the prisoner who's jacket you can see on my previous upload - thanks for the comments there, appreciated!

V2 was the first image I processed, I liked it but was unsure of the central position of the mug...

As always I thank you for your time, your thoughts/comments are very welcome!

Regards - Sarah J x

the scratchy textures and the rich wood of the pipe make a nice contrast.
only.. if you allow me to say so, I would have preffered a bit narrower focus, to get a softer b/g.

Thank you Annette, that's a fair comment, I'm just going to upload a version, don't think the background is that much better but see what you think, always difficult to get these grab shots when so many people about..

Your sense about the centered mug is 100% correct. V1 makes all the difference and the closer crop works too. Great..[now]. TG

Both work really well and I prefer version 2 because there is a little more space around the subject matter. Nice colours and really good detail.
kind regards,
I'm going with your original thought here Sarah, you can just get a whiff of the baccy.

Like the details in the items Sarah, of the two V1 is the better image.

I go for V2, for a bit more space and the complete loop of green string. It's not the softness/or otherwise in the background that distracts me, it's the brightness - I would prefer it more subdued.

A lovely little still life Sarah. Your processing has brought out the texture and detail perfectly.

Forget the baccy, but I'll have a drop of rum! A wonderful still-life, Sarah, and I go for V2, as it includes the whole of the piece of string on the right Wink
