Tree Fern 2

By pamelajean
This is the start of a series featuring leaves.

I love the curves and patterns made by ferns.
From this close-up, itís not obvious that this is a Tree Fern (a fern that is like a tree!), a slow-growing architectural plant with long filigree-like spreading fronds above a thick trunk.
The trunk is in fact a rhizome, surrounded by a mass of fibrous roots.
These impressive tree ferns are one of the oldest plants in the world.

Tree ferns often fall over in the wild, yet manage to re-root from this new prostrate position and begin new vertical growth.
Though native to New Zealand and Australia, they are able to thrive in the changeable British weather, giving a garden an exotic, tropical look, as well as drama and style.

I was delighted with the response to my ornamental flowering currant, and with all of those lovely User Awards.

Pamela.
