Triangualtion Point - RIP

By ade_mcfade
NOTE THE ORIGINAL RAW IS IN THE MODS SECTION

A trianulation point was basically somewhere with a benchmark from where you could get your theodolite out and start taking meaningful measurements of angles from. I did Civil Engineering at uni and these were still in use, just about...

Now these charming little chunks of concrete are on the tops of many a hill and have no further purpose since the advent of global positioning satelites. All they do now is remind us of the past, and you can buy them if you like - hence the plaque on this one.

it's taken last week with just a polariser on, natural light on the thing itself and a nice hole in that annoying cloud (it stopped all the wonderful light for the duration of my shoot!!!) giving a little golden ray.

Ta folks

Got some cracking light that night Keith, now the suns setting after work (at long last) I may be going up here a bit cause the light is spectacular there, even if you do get fed up of turbines, there's all those rocks in teh quarry, broken glass, cans, the reservoirs etc... and Studley Pike in the distance too of course.

just posted the original in the mods to show how I took it, Cloudy white balance; how CP1 thought it should look is in the proper shot

oh - go one graceland, I always allow mods so people can have a play. I'm never offended, even with some of the bizzare things that have happened!

excellent work on this Ade, quite like that annoying cloud myself, but I know very well what you mean.

Is it the one up Ovenden?

Cheers everyone - HC, ta Pete Smile

Quite like the mode Steven, you've far more patience than I have Smile

The work was 99% in CP1, just curves and white balance - so if you ever were in doubt about RAW, this should be proof to convert!

The hardest part for me was the crop - getting the heavy left side to balance with the light right. As in, you have a huge thing on the left and nothing but a little light shaft on the left.

Yes - it's Ovenden, Tony. Is there another one in the UK? Smile

If you fancy a trip up there after work next week Scott, give us a shout
