Trout Lily

By taggart
Trout Lily
aka Dogtooth Violet
Erythronium amricanum . 4-10 inches tall

This native flower blankets our woods for a few days and a few linger awhile longer. The leaves are mottled , colored much like the trout found in the streams and rivers. The bulbs resemble canine teeth---Thus its names.

The version will show you how a young plant is seen in the woods-- not at all easy to get a clear image of these tiny flowers! These images will likely be added to my Native Plants research collection.

Thank You all for your interest in my various images--all greatly appreciated!

I always look forward to seeing these, they literally carpet the woods. We also have Clintonia borealis which are similar and grow in the same areas, so it is quite a sight.
