(Continuing my Southampton series. Most of the pictures in this series are taken from “the old town”).
I couldn't resist taking a picture of this very unusual piece, and had to later find some information about it.
This is a Paper Galleon from the Tudor House Museum, Southampton, by Jessica Palmer, a UK-based artist and illustrator whose work spans collage, paper sculpture, paper cutting, digital drawing and painting.
If you look closely, I think the galleon is driven by a mermaid !?
She says, “My Tudor Paper Galleon, made from Tarasen Grass Paper, and featuring papier mache and paper cut elements, is now a permanent feature of the Tudor House Museum where it conjures the spirit of a place which is built from ancient ships’ timbers and was once the home of Henry Vlll’s ships’ chandler.”
