A place I would love to visit

The one time I tried they refused to sail - a 8Mph NW was blowing at the timeSad

I gather the difficulty is disembarking on the Isle
Puffin shots always seem a tad more vibrant than those from the Farnes
The light I suppose

Thanks everyone Smile

Yes Adrian, if the wind is from a Northerly direction it's difficult to land on Skomer, the boat literally pushes it's bow against the cliff and you have to climb out onto the rocks.
The advantage that Skomer has over the Farn Islands, so I'm told, are the lovely variety of backgrounds that Skomer has to offer.
It's a fantastic place though and well worth a visit.
There's a Skomer blog on Facebook that sends you daily updates about weather conditions, bird sightings etc. well worth signing up for, it's free by the way.

The wonder of photography is that if, at any point, you begin to feel self-satisfied, a quick look at the work of others soon gives you a reality check Smile This is bloomin' marvelous! I'll have a pint of what you're drinking, Geoffrey, m8!

Thank you Zoran for your User Award Smile

Thanks Alun, this is one of a burst of 3 or 4 shots that were in focus and large in the frame, most of the others were either a bit further away or a bit blurred.
It's very difficult when they're flying past you at great speed, just locking on and trying to keep the bird in the viewfinder is very frustrating, each pass is over in a split second and most of the time you can't even see where exactly the birds are coming at you from, they really are like bullets.
Luck has a lot to do with it and I got lucky this time Wink

What Tomcat failed to say is that he was there for two days and on the other occasion he attempted to get to Skomer he overslept after having a skinful of ale in one of the local hostelries the night before and failed to get there in time and saw the boat sailing off into the distance when he eventually arrived at the harbourside!WinkGrinTongue

I digress this is a fabulous inflight capture Geoff, I can almost feel the wind currents buffeting the bird!
