Twelve o-clock high

B17 Series

‘Twelve o’clock high’

As the lead section of the B17 formation comes within range of the Luftwaffe fighter defences the deadly battle to complete the mission starts. The first section of Bf109s finishes their attack by half rolling through the formation while two pairs of Fw190s are poised in the ‘twelve o’clock high’ position in a concerted approach to try and split the formidable gun defences of the B17 formation.

Title taken from the classic b/w film of the same name which serves as a fair account of the 8th Air Force B17 operations
