Both have their merits, but I go for the mono as it reflects more of the weightiness of the church than the colour original.

mono for me (after short hesitation) and why can't they put away those ugly overhead cables

A fine capture, Jeff 👍 I agree with Leo, they always put annoying overhead cables in front of your best viewpoints of buildings like this 😬 Both work well, but I'm going for colour 😀

I also prefer the colour version as it shows the green slates(?) whereas in mono you are not aware of them. The "fill" tool in PS would easily remove these offending cables.

Thanks Ian. I don't use PS, just a very old version LR (4.0). I realise I could have tried to clone the wires out, but not sure it would really improve the shot....horses for courses, I expect 😁😁

Same as Jenn ...love the blue green spires on top I find the mono is not as exciting in this shot as the colour verion.
