I love this. And no, I wouldn't get rid of the more distant figure. He is waiting at the end of the journey, he defines where the walking figure is heading. And because he is in profile he provides a very satisfying balance.
The lead-in is a gift. I'm also looking at an alternative landscape composition from the top of the frame, a lead-in from the right is more ambiguous.

Leave the distant figure. There's an association between the two of them. I see a furtive meeting, something exchanged, then the one is gone...

One other option is to remove the near figure and leave the distant figure,

hey, i am a photography student from South Africa and am using twisted as part of my assignment. the problem i can not find any information about you (BIOGRAPHY). I have already done so much work, I LOVE THIS PHOTOGRAPH. not having your bio means i will have to find a new image, new photographer. PLEASE HELP.
