Twistleton Hues ...

By sut68
Wasn't sure about posting any of the landscapes from Saturday morning because of the dreaded blue skies and possibly because I didn't feel that well on the day I didn't push myself as much as I should/could.

Anyway, thought I'd see how this one went. This was actually my first shot and pre-dawn, so there are some nice pinkish hues in the sky. If my memory serves me right, I don't think there were any grads for this one.

Cheers for dropping by, feel free to have your say.

Paul

Blue sky is a natural thing and occurs sometimes here in the UK Wink

There is nothing wrong with plain sky as long as you get the colour spot on and you've done a good job here. Don't ever upset yourself over the elements as we have to take what we get on the day. This is a very good photo of a much photographed subject.

I can almost feel the cold in this shot and love the lighting on the foreground rocks.

The low angle adds impact and the lone tree in the distance complements the main subject well.

rules are made to be broken Paul - I can live without white fluffy clouds everywhere. The band of pink add enough interest and this is a good winter shot.

Quote:Don't ever upset yourself over the elements as we have to take what we get on the day

It`s true for session shoots where your stuck to a timetable ,availability of models, access to locations etc, however landscape for me are all about getting the right time on the right day with the right light. We all try to get the best out of our time--which is often limited.
I get the gut feeling with your discription that you wern`t too happy with this upload---which imho is composed well, sharp ,but the lack of good light drops it down below your usual highstandard of upload.
Not ranting just putting a point over honestly.

Me too Les, hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon to get rid of this viral infection. The location needs a nice bit of cloud and mood to maximise it I feel - similar to Malham.

Beautiful detailed composition with the rock formation nicely composed, the line of pink across the sky is very good indeed.
Nice work without the clouds we all love, but then you might have had too much of a good thing.

All the very best hope this bug buggers off soon,

It's been a strange week or two, never seen so many landscapes with plain blue skies - lol
I've even got one to upload tomorrow. Not as dramatic/atmospheric as your previous shots but that's not your fault, with the lack of cloud - superb clarity and pin sharp as always.

There is beauty in clear skies as well Paul, I spent all yesterday walking the high fells above the mist and fog with crystal clear views to IOM, Snowdonia and the pennines - admittedly dificult to photograph well but here you've done a fine job.

Cheers Ash and a big thanks to you Kim for your honesty.

Now's my turn to be honest Kim, as much as it embarasses me to say it - I hadn't actually spotted your original comment as our posts must've crossed, they were at the same time by the look of it ... but having gone back and read it I also thank you for being as candid as you were.

My 'downer' on the shot I can't exactly lay my finger on, but I suppose in the past I've been spoilt by good light and dramatic skies and this being such a move away from that - combined with my illness and subsequent lethargy on the day - just gave me reason to doubt it, rather than putting my faith in what I had shot.

for me personally, who is no expert on landscapes - this shot is perfect, the foreground is dramatic enough so the plain sky balances the shot perfectly, I think if the sky was as dramatic it would be too much, but as I say no expert in this field by any means. Sue
