Two Dragons

By Kako
Two beautiful De Havilland DH.89A Dragon Rapides in formation at Old Warden recently.

The lead aircraft ...G-AGJG was built in 1941. Privately owned, it underwent a 27 year restoration before taking to the skies again in June 2004.
The second aircraft G-AGSH was built in 1945 as a Dominie by Brush Coachworks Ltd at Loughborough before being 'civilianised' as a DH89A and subsequent delivery to Channel Island Airways Ltd of Jersey in July 1945. The aircraft has had many owners including several airlines and flew with BEA as 'James Keir Hardie' on its Highlands and Islands Scottish route network.

The aircraft is currently owned by Philip Meeson (since 1992) and during his ownership underwent a major rebuilding and restoration including the reversion to its current BEA scheme.
