Welcome both to Ephotozine and especially to the Critique Gallery, Sajith.

In this gallery, you don't get any votes or awards, but you will get thoughtful feedback from members of the Critique Team and other members. (If you don't want that, make sure that you don't tick the 'Critique wanted' box on the upload page.)

Alternatively, if you do want us to look at your picture as critically as possible, and in detail, we need more information from you. If we're going to give you the best feedback that we possibly can, we need real input from you, including a lot more information. That way, the critique that we give is far more likely to be what you are looking for, and consequently far more helpful to you. For instance, it will be helpful to know:

What is your reason for requesting critique?
What inspired you to take this photo?
What were you hoping to achieve?
Do you feel that you succeeded or failed?
Are there any specific elements of your photo that you want help with?
Do you want advice on camera settings, processing, composition, or something else?
Do you have any particular questions you would like answered?

Without that data, it's only possible to offer limited comments. It looks as though you've processed this to suppress detail in the background, and that's good - although it might have been even better to find a way to have a darker and more neutral, featureless background (some plant specialist photographers carry dark cloth to hang behind their subjects). Technical quality is pretty good, although focus seems to be sharpest on the far side of the flowers.

So - if you want critique, please give us more information: and if not, please let us know.

Hello from me. I hope you will come back and reply to John's questions above - we can do so much more if we know your intentions, and what areas you are looking for critique on.

I'll just add: This angle shows the structure of the flower, for species identification, but it's messy as a composition. If you are looking for artistic rather than ID content, try photographing face-on.

There are areas where it looks as though you have isolated the background to darken it, the edge of the petals top left looks untidy in places, and the edge of the background leaf lower right is rather clean-cut when the leaf itself is out of focus. I'd like to see the unprocessed original, you can add it as a modification - click on the blue Modifications button below your image and follow the instructions.
