Under the Bridges of Berwick

By woolybill1
The man standing in the river is setting a salmon net, and if you view as large as you can you will see the top line, held up by floats, looping out across the flow of the tide and back toward him. Later he was joined by several companions to complete the job and haul in the catch.
Until the 1980s salmon netting on the Tweed employed hundreds of workers on a seasonal basis; due to the need to preserve stocks that number has been drastically reduced. The catch we think we saw was rather meagre.

Thanks for all your votes, comments and awards yesterday, they are as always much appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

Great composition Bill; a real mish mash of bridges. I don't know Berwick at all.

Double reverse Woolly this morning, Bill. A 'Newcastle' shot transferred north, and lovely. I could see an extreme panorama, with minimal sky working, as well.

Not quite managing to rival Newcastle when it comes to bridges, but three is a worthy effort.

A superb image of these bridges, Bill, with plenty of foreground interest. I agree with John (dudler) that cropping out most of the sky would produce and equally good panoramic scene.

A super mono image, Bill, of one of the premier salmon rivers in the area. The furthest back bridge is called the Royal Border Bridge, as the river is the border between England and Scotland. You get on the bridge in England and come off it in Scotland!
