An excellent image with a good lead in and bags of interest on the way to the central focal point.

This is a great picture but were you not worried about the glacier collapsing while you were in there?

Honestly no, there are a team of local guides that check out the cave structures daily. We were well protected (hard hats, crampons, etc) that said one week after we were there, there was a major collapse of the glacier that was captured by our guide (who I would highly recommend). its hard to see on this version - but on the full rez version (8000px wide) you can see the ice field through the far opening. Indeed we had a smaller collapse whist we were there ( on the other side where we couldn't see) but we did have a small tidal surge.

The day before we visited there was a major storm (120+mph winds, and yes that was scary) - that created a partial collapse of one of the caves nearer the opening of the caves.

This is a link to the video he posted, it went viral and was on both the BBC & CNN websites.

I have always had more than a passing interest in the environment, but I was startled when he mentioned that the glacier has receded over 400m in the last 10 years. It really make you wonder what we are doing to this planet.

One thing I would say, anyone wanting to do this, make sure you are physically fit - I'm not!! my 16+ stones walking 90 minutes to and from the caves on crampons took its toll on my knees ... but would I go again? ...hell yes, in a heartbeat.
