Unexpected Guest

By KarenFB
During our 'social' picnic, we saw Taffy was interested in something that kept making him jump backwards - when I went to investigate I found this gorgeous Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar. I placed him in an area we let grow wild and to my delight he was still there today! Smile

Isn't he gorgeous, a very large (3 inches or 7.5 cm), chunky caterpillar with skin of velvet - I've yet to see the moth!!

They like honeysuckle, fuchsias, rosebay willow herb and the like. Maybe you have some in your wild area. I'm glad you like them as much as I do. He will be looking for somewhere to pupate after having his fill of the plants. Love those eye spots.
