Thanks Jimmy, John, Kevin and Carol.
Looks good to me, the flower itself is pretty spectacular when you see it so close, nature has all the best shapes and colours.

A super image Jeanie. It looks liek the flower is exploding out of the frame.

DOF works well; emphasising the head of the flower. Just wonder if you had stopped down a bit more you may have got a bit more detail/focus on the head.

Crop-wise I think there are a couple options: 1) crop to put the head slap bang in the midle of the frame or 2) put the head in the 1/3rds.

Crit Buddie (this is very new to me!)

This is a lovely image, and there's not a lot you can say crit wise. The colours are lovely, you've almost centred it, presumably to draw total attention to it and away from the rest of the flower. I've tried a mod to place it a little more off-centre, but I'm not sure it works either, you can tell me what you think. It's the light area at the top that drags my eye away from the flower centre.

I like the central part of the image, sharp with strong colours.I find the outer areas of the image dont add anything.Maybe a tighter crop would concentrate more on the subject

I like the starburst effect you have captured. I think a tighter crop would emphasise the head. I have uploaded a mod, I slightly adjusted levels and applied unsharp mask. I also cropped so the head is central. Overall a good macro image.

Crit Buddy

Lovely image, don't have much to say I am afraid! Agree with what the others have said about the positioning, and particularly like Stella's mod - think it looks better central and closer in. Really like the DOF on this and how only the centre is actually in focus.

Great shot and nicely using the macro to present a different view of the subject. I would personally maybe just crop a little off the left, increase DOF a notch and have a slight angle on the head but all very minor preferences

funny thing Jeanie but when i looked at the thumb, it didnt look at all inspiring and yet when opened it becomes something else, that tiny depth of field focused in just the right place makes for a gorgeous detail.
i have to say though i would have been tempted to place things a bit off centre or crop to square.
i made up the 7th in the group at the last min by the way.
