VE 75

By Alfie_P
The two ladies in the image are the ones that organised the street party we had yesterday to celebrate VE day 75th anniversary. Everyone set up their tables & chairs in their front gardens and observed the distancing rules.
It was a lovely day and evening which was a relief from the lock-down, in all honesty I don't think this would have happened if there was no C-19 so you could say something good has come from it because everybody got to meet all those neighbours that in the past may have just said a hello or good morning and gone on their way. It has definitely brought everyone much closer together I feel and long may it continue.

I think that this has made us all need social closeness, within physical distance. In ways, and this is one of them, has made the world, smaller. We need each other.

Did we have to lose so many thousands of people to realize that our lives had gone wrong? That no one is ultimately self-sufficient (from individuals to entire states) and that we all need others? At least let's be wiser with this story.

Lovely to see the neighbours interacting in such a positive way, Dave.
A great image and a very good piece of social history.

All of the above and especially what Dimitris said. I like this very much for doing the practical kind of job that photographs can do so well which is recording a moment in time and capturing the fleeting essence of that moment along with its associations. This is one such glorious example and demonstrates what happens when we make the most of things. I also think your commentary hits the proverbial nail squarely on the head and, as grim as this is on so many levels, 'It's an ill wind ... ' and all that.
A gong it is then for the image, the commentary and for the sense of good cheer it conveys. 👍 😀 🏆
