VE Day and for a week or so after, there were millions of, Street-Parties in celebration.

This then is one of the photographs taken during our VE Day Street Party held in our school grounds.... the fancy dress had been judged so my cork make-up had been washed off... I am the bright little face peeping out from behind.... Wee-Willie-Winky pyjamas LHS.

Our dadÂ’s and older siblings were to remain in the Forces for at least another six month.... our dad had been fighting for six years.... he had just one leave, in late 1939. So it was the overworked harassed mumÂ’s who had to find the money and rations to find contributions to the party.

Grand parents, older uncles and aunts all played their part too.....

For the whole of my Infant - junior days the war had been raging... just five miles from Coventry... we had evacuees from there.... later my friend lost both of his grandparents when a Landmine dropped on the town centre.

It may be hard today.... but insignificant to those horrendous years...

Credit to the long defunct local paper...

Cyril, a fine reminder of a time that's 8 years beyond my date of birth, and a really helpful thought.

We only need to remember the people who made our world for us and it's easy to do what we need to now, including staying indoors. And, of course, to understand the importance of working together across all sorts of divides.

Well done Cyril for keeping this image safe. We can only be grateful that Churchill and not Boris or Matt Hancock were running the show else there'd be no Spitfires ordered until 1945

Every place, city, country has its own memories from the war. Nowhere are pleasant. Lets take them as a lesson for us and our children for a better world!
