Villa Taranto Giardini Botanici (1)

By TrevBatWCC
After leaving Intra, the coach to us on a short 1.25 km drive down to these beautiful botanical gardens at Villa Taranto, on the western shore of Lake Maggiore in Pallanza. This lakeside garden was created between 1931-1940 by an ex-pat Scot, Captain Neil McEacharn, with worldwide flora & plants.
Back in 1931, the Scottish Captain decided to buy the estate called 'La Crocetta' from the Marquise of Sant'Elia to transform it into a specimen English Garden, situated in a strip of Italy which could remind him of his native Scotland.
At 16 hectares in area, today the gardens contain nearly 20,000 plant varieties, representing more than 3,000 species, all set among 7 km of paths. We were given a map of the gardens (see V5), which gives you a route to follow around the gardens to ensure you don't miss anything! The lead and V1 were taken near the start of the walk, with V2, V3 & V4 close-ups on some of the dozens of bees that were visiting the flowers.

Many thanks to Arne (Saastad) for his User Award on my previous upload, Intra Town , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 👍

Those are some gardens, Trev, and very well documented by you. A fine mix of views and details.

Looking at the size of the leaves in the lead image, I could do with one of those to use at a forthcoming fancy-dress party - I'm going as Adam and am struggling to find a leaf big enough to cover 'things'Wink

Fig leaves are meant to cover the "front" not the rear, MalcWink

Such beauty. The formal garden must require tons of work to stay so pristine.
Sorry I haven't commented lately. I have spend the last week moving into my winter apartment. No more fighting with the snow shovel!!!!
