Whilst you have made an effort to picture something different, the phone is not capable of reproducing both the shadows and the highlights, the range is just too great. If you exposed for the highlights I doubt you could resurrect the shadows and vice versa should you have exposed for the shadows.

A very powerful off-camera flash unit would help to lift the shadows, but I doubt you are able to attach one, maybe your only chance was to include more of the train in the shadows to minimise the sky and hence limit the unmanagable contrast. ie swing your phone left so that the front of the engine is on the right hand side of the frame.

I've managed to rescue some detail in the train using the shadows/highlights tool, then curves in PS and cropping the RHS to remove the brighter bit helps (I hope!)
