Waiting for the ferry on Orust

By skyeman
I was waiting for the ferry going from the Island of Orust, on the Swedish West Coast, to go over to another island named Lyr, mid-afternoon in late October. It was very peaceful and I wanted to capture the serenity of the place but I only had my Casio compact with me. I liked the way the clouds reflected like a sheen on the water and the apparent symmetry of the shore on the right side. I would have preferred to have a local small wooden boat in the frame but it did not work out. It is spoiled a little by the power line poles, perhaps I should photoshop these out? Settings on camera were: f/3.2, 1/640th sec, ISO 64, aperture 24mm, auto white balance.

Its a really nice scene. I like the reflections of the clouds in the water, - it does look peaceful.

I would certainly remove the poles, and as the shy is very bright, reducing highlights brings a nice amount of detail back into the clouds.

Ive done this in the mod, and also cropped a little space from the top, to place the horizon higher. The mod is slightly warmer toned I think too.

I read a book by a Swedish man/woman team about a soldier rowing between the small islands, - this gives me a picture, though I believe the books had the sea more choppy!

Nice shot, and I hope this is helpful,

Dear Willie, your mod has certainly improved the shot. The raising if the horizon works well. Just one small thing - the reflection of the poles has to be removed as well. Many thanks for the advice. Alastair

Assume this is a mobile phone? Reasonable quality but not really a lot there for me. It lacks a real subject and, I think, looked better to the eye than it has recorded.
