Waives The Rules

By ketch
Back in 1934 there was a near successful english challenger for the much coveted America's Cup (probably the most outrageous and the most expensive sporting event in the world and I include Formula One).

The racing in the US was close but the english challenger was deemed to have breached the rules of the sailing race and was disqualified.

This led a yachting journalist to come out with the immortal and slightly inflamitory headline:

Brittania Rules The Waves but the US waives The Rules.

Cross pond relations took a nose dive - anyway it all happened a long time ago and we are best of friends again now?

This is my slightly cliched tribute - it is also a reminder that we did get a few good days towards the end of this summer!!

Thanks for looking

Best wishes
