Wallpaper (anno 1974)

By bliba
My parents' apartment is empty . My mother lived there 47 years, my father 41 years and I 20 years.
In the last days the final dissolution of my family took place. A desecration and crushing took place ,suddenly there was a wealth of memories connected to every thing. ... We pulled and pushed the chairs, sofas and tables around, we violently broke the order, and soon the apartment resembled a furniture warehouse, and the objects, guarded and cared for by my mother's hand all her life, lay in different rooms in five large piles, partly to be taken over, partly to be disposed of.

Today at the handing over of the keys to the owners of the apartment I saw the apartment empty for the first time.
In my former room I found a relic of my childhood ... Somehow it has existed behind a cupboard all these years and was forgotten.
At that time I was very proud of my 1st wallpaper .
Now it sticks to the wall for a few days until the apartment is renovated ... then it disappears ... A new section begins .

thanks for looking

A small scrap of wallpaper can invoke fond thoughts of year's ago but at least happy memories.

I love scraping off old wallpaper to reveal the past beneath. Quite often there will be messages with hearts drawn on the walls, or names of various pets.

We spend a lot of our lives building up layers of emotional wallpaper and then trying to see through them. I remember these scenes when my mother died - but she had long ago moved away from places that held childhood memories for me.
Even without the write-up the emotional power is there.

I like Moira's words about emotional wallpaper. A very good analogy.
That wallpaper looks as if it was bright and cheerful, and I hope you have mainly positive and cheerful memories of that home.
