Walney Pier

By dathersmith
One from an early start on Saturday morning. At this time of year the sun rises nicely behind Walney Lighthouse and it's an image I've had in my mind for a year or two but never got around to taking it. So I set out to rectify it on Saturday but as I walked towards the lighthouse pre-sunrise I slowly came to realise that it was looking more like a square box than the lovely shape I remembered it to be. Then it became obvious, it is undergoing maintenance of some sort and is completely covered in scaffolding apart from a gap for the light to escape Sad Obviously disappointed but wanting to rescue something from the morning I walked to the other side of the island and decided to get a shot of the remains of the old pier with Piel Castle in the distance. As you can see the sun was up by this time but throwing a nice golden glow on the pebbles.

Better than returning home with nothing?

Darren.

Nicely composed Darren, and that early morning light catching the pebbles and timbers works beautifully.

Unbelievable 'rescue' shot. I'd be happy if I got one image a tenth as good as this!

Great work in what appears to be a difficult / low contrast setting.
