War and Peace revisited

By mrswoolybill
A b&w version of an earlier colour upload. I like both equally.
Tynemouth Castle, Tynemouth Priory, and the 6" gun on the WW1 battery.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Thanks for the UA Sue! I took this for b&w, then somehow the colour took over for a bit.

Beautiful contrasty and detailed mono - great lead in with the gun barrel.

A little-known point of embarkation. Geordies got into training for the invasion by staging mock battles on Newcastle's Quayside of a Saturday night...
Thanks folks and good morning.

Wow - now this is a cracking shot Moira. Fantastic perspective. The heavy clouds and deep shadows add to the story and for me this image is a story. The gun, headstones and ruin make for a really good composition. And it's black and white too!

Much stronger in b&w and I do like that close-up threatening barrel opening.

I really like this one and as soon as I see I thought of John Farnham - "You're the Voice" and may be one day we listen...

i really do prefer this b&w version Moira. It emphasizes the diagonal from the gun to the abbey ruin and the brooding sky, the gravestones complete the image without being too obvious.

This mono is more dramatic.

I uploaded a portrait format shot, taken from a couple of steps to the left. I moved to the right for this one, for more distance between gun and shadow, with a view to a square crop. So this one has more sense of breadth, and the gun isn't pointing quite so directly at us.
Thanks everyone.

Super mono tones and seems to gain in this image, over the colour version, with more clear cut tones and also looks sharper.

I nearly always prefer colour over a mono version of the same image, but here have to go for mono! Much punchier, and the gun looks more threatening... 😃👍

An excellent conversion Moira. Looks even more intimidating in
black and white. Also a very useful tool to have during the Peace negotiations Smile

A real sense of depth to this Moira. I think I've missed the colour version - I'm hoping to play catch up with some fav portfolios soon, but time is running away...

The gun, the ruined building and the graves - just about sums up man's capacity for destruction.
Great composition.
