Wash Sunset

By Stewy
This is a bit of a departure for me. Despite living close to the sea, it's not easy to get free time coinciding with tide times, sunset time and weather conditions, but I've been longing to try out water movement capture shots for ages.

I would really welcome any comments, good or bad, advice or thoughts, on this, my first attempt.

I do have have several more, but wanted to test the water, (no pun intended), with what I hope is a half decent effort.

f22, 2.5 seconds, ISO 100

Thanks for looking. Please do view large if you have time, and as I said above, I would really appreciate any feedback.

Great FG interest with rocks & super colours from the sun set, but not sure about the dark patches on the corners of the image, do not know if you used ND filers or not but if you did the dark could be from the filter not been big enough for such a wide angle lens as the 10-22mm
but still a nice image

Thanks Glynnis. There is an ND grad in there, might even have been two actually. It is cropped slightly from original, just to remove the filter holder edges. Bottom corners are much darker on here than in the original.

I wouldn't have suspected this was your first attempt. Far from it in fact. Lovely shot.

Thanks Danny, Nigel and Marilyn for your words of encouragement.

May post another one tommorrow, perhaps with a little more impact.

Fantastic sunset, spot on with the timing. Should have more recognition.

Really like this. I think these water-in-motion shots come down to personal taste, with some people preferring a softening to the water like you have here, through to those who like the 'candy floss' effect of very long exposures.

As picked up by someone else, I think I'd have lifted the corners a bit in Photoshop - particularly to bring out a bit more detail on the largest rock.

Or maybe just a slightly longer exposure (it doesn't look like you are in danger of burning anything out), which would also soften the water a bit more (which is more to my personal tastes!).

A terrific shot still, that easily eclipses any of my shoddy efforts!
