Watchet Marina

By Sezz
Watchet Marina, West Somerset, changed a bit since my last visit, that's Minehead in the distance.

There has been a port at Watchet for over a thousand years and the harbour was still used by commercial boats until 2000. It has been destroyed by the power of the sea on several occasions and in the 1860s, when engineers were asked to submit plans for rebuilding it, those of Isambard Kingdom Brunel were turned down as being too expensive! When finally the harbour was decommissioned, the port was turned into a place for pleasure craft and a new marina opened in 2001.

Thank you for your time, your thoughts/comments are very welcome.

Regards - Sarah x

Thanks everyone, appreciate your comments. Malcolm - think you're right, had to crop that side as I just had a small bit of the return wall and it looked a bit messy. I've a few more though so perhaps will have another go Smile

This makes me wonder what this place was like hundreds of years ago. And also how the biggest boat gets out into the ocean. Does it have to fit through those upright columns? Nice light and sky too by the way.

Thank you Tel, Mike, Patrick and Dave for your time and comments.
Well Patrick, I don't know about a hundred years ago but it certainly didn't look as good in the early 80's and yes - I think the boats do have to fit through those uprights Smile
Thanks to all those who clicked also!
