I aways get sussed too when trying for such shots, so I tend to hold my camera at waist level, set to wide angle and fire in hopefully the right direction whilst looking elsewhere, and then cropping as required if the shot is in focus.

Aye Ronnie, I do often try 'shooting from the hip' etc and sometimes it works well. But these days people are so camera savvy that even then, people are on red alert when seeing someone with a camera!
