water and reflections

By saltireblue
Hello all from a very wet, windy and miserable valley somewhere in Norway.
What a horrible load of weather outside!

I was very unsure about uploading this one, but have trouble feeling inspired today.
Will be glad to hear what you think - no need to be gentle with meSmile

I think this is an interesting subject for a photo, the reflections and light bouncing of the glass generate a lot of interest here, the composition looks ok, my only niggle is the overexposed bright sky (?) and the shadows on the bottom RHS Smile However still a very interesting subject, if you get a chance to do this again maybe look to get the exposure right for the sky.

Cheers and hope this helps

An interesting subject well composed. I can't help thinking that you have heavily increased the contrast to exagerate the reflections Malc. It would be interesting to see the uneditted original.

Hi Malc. thanks for the pm. I can see what you wree trying to do now. I think you will find that Contrast is a very crude tool that can have undesireable effects on other parts of the picture. In my opinion it is usually best to use curves for this purpose as you have much greater control. I've uploaded a modification were I have just used curves to bring out the reflections. (I haven't sorted the shaddow, which should be done). I think from this you can see what I mean.
Hope you find my commments helpful.

All the best,

James

I think you have captured some excellent reflections in the original shot, but that they get lost with the processing in v1 and v2. So currently I'm giving my vote to v3

I've had a go at sorting two things with a mod.
First of all I've used the lens correction filter to straighten some of the vertical lines.
Secondly I've used the shadow/highlight adjustment which bricurtis drew my attention to - really helpful in bringing out a contrast without such dark colours that results from using the contrast adjuster. Haven't attempted to do anything with the shadow though.
Hope that helps

v2 for me, which is quite abstract and so unusual
