Excellent Water Rail capture, Ed. Very well detailed with lovely natural plumage tones and patterning and fine eye. One of the best images of this shy bird that I have seen on here.

The water rail is showing well from the Willow Hide at Slimbridge at present so if you are thinking of making a trip there it will be worth it. There are also avocets, oystercatchers, little egrets and various raptors about on the reserve

A most beautiful looking member of the Waterfowl fraternity Ed. You have captured not only the beautiful colour and detail so very well but also their charm and characteristics.

Nice shot i have yet to get one of these
Excellent shot Ed - they are such shy birds normally however maybe they have all "come out of their shells" together as the ones at my local reserve are showing really well at the moment. Lou

Sorry no pun intended - have just realised what I had typed!!

I love this bright red beel, fromwhich your eye passes over the pattern of the plumage. If it hadn't been for that beak, it'd be perfect camoiflage
