Wow! 16000 ISO !
And yet 1/400 at f8
Was it all deliberate to force out the grain?

Lovely image

I cannot tell a lie Colin. The simple answer is no.
I was putting the lens onto the body with a view capturing a couple of blackbirds in the garden. Izzy looked up and I pressed the button. It was massively underexposed and I only kept it to see if any of the software I had could cope with the noise. The answer to that is also no. In the end I just liked the expression and processed it in Affinity and Silver Efex.
I hadn't got round to adjusting the settings when I took this shot.

Well she's a great model anyway Alan.

It's a simple but very good photo, have you put it on GT FB page?

As an experienced user of grain from the time in 1970 when I developed a roll of HP4 in print developer, I suggest winding the contrast right up: make a feature of the noise!

And she'll come ot love this when she's older. Get some prints done!

Love the expression, Alan.

Nothing wrong with a bit of grain sometimes.

I recognise that expression - a standard from granddaughters when they spot a camera (that is not a friend's phone)

John,
I did try increasing the contrast but preferred it without. I'm in a "reduce the contrast" phase at the moment. The Selenium toning added in Silver Efex made it for me.
Izzy likes it now she's seen it and prints are on the agenda over the next couple of weeks.

Sorry Richard, FB I know but I've no idea what GT is. I stopped using FB a few years ago when the local Photos Old & New Group degenerated into yet another FB group for trading insults.

She looks great as a portrait....and as a photo.....in mono, you have intentionally or otherwise, captured the look of the film so many of us loved back when, Tri-X.

Contrast is a matter of personal taste, I agree. And it goes in waves, too!

Have a good one.
