We hardly suspect the existence of this stone cosmos above the rooftops of the city

Between bricks, chimneys and antennas, the most diverse formations appear. On gables, cornices, balustrades and roof terraces, all kinds of animals, lions, eagles, deer, but also numerous human figures, portraits of historical personalities, images of gods, allegories and personifications are gathered. High above the streets, removed from the hustle and bustle of traffic, there is a quiet world of its own. With our eyes fixed on mobile phones, displays and traffic lights, we hardly suspect the existence of this stone cosmos above the rooftops of the city.

I took this picture through a window from the Burgtheater. On the right, Goethe from behind, the building in the background is Vienna's City Hall, in front of it a large ice-skating rink that is very popular with young and old alike.

The two versions show

1 . The beautiful Burgtheater - the red circle shows the window through which I took the picture.
2. Portal of the Burgtheater in Vienna .
Above the central building a statue of Apollo decorates the façade, enthroned between the Muses for Drama and Tragedy.

In Greek and Roman mythology, Apollo was the god of light, spring, moral purity and moderation, as well as divination and the arts, especially music, poetry and song.

Among them Lessing ,Goethe and Schiller

A remarkable use of the viewpoint, Oliver, and of the wide aperture. Is this visionary photography, I wonder? as Goethe, Schiller and first of all Lessing were visionaries (no wonder I had to read them all at University 😁Wink

Oh tis Goethe ...here I thought it might be Beethoven..... that theatre is one ornate building ....nothing like that exists in western Canada !! I could stare at it all day ...is there perchance a coffee shop across the street ?
