Wealth or Comfort? - 1905

By HobbitDave
Thanks kindly for the clicks and comments on my last old photo upload. Its nice they are being enjoyed.

Here are two more original photos, c.1905, restored in iPads Photo Editor.

Lead image is very much a wealthy persons car, completer with chauffeur, and various period accessories like electric horn, removable headlamps when driving in daytime, (you can see the headlamp forks), and a speaking tube for chauffeur to passengers in the rear seat, who were divided from him by a glass screen. Very posh! And why does the young passenger with the straw boater look like Dougal from the sit-com Father Ted? More likely he was going to a smart boarding school like Eton or similar, with a straw hat like that!

V.1 Is a comfortable, more everyday two seater from the same period as the lead image. More relaxed, enjoyable, and less pretentious motoring with this one, I think.

Economy!
Cars were considered cheaper compared to the expense of horse, stables, food and horse shoesThat is the reason you don't say "cheap as horsrs" but "cheap as chipx". Gasoline was a byproduct of crude oil distillation that had no use before it becomes an internal combustion engine fuel.
