Lovely it may be when in bloom, but in many areas it is considered a weed to be removed to allow native species to re-establish themselves.

Something like a million of them at Cragside - there was a lot of indignation when they were thinned out a little while ago!

I remember growing up in a rectory with enormous bushes on either side of the lawn. All are no more, along with several magnficent horse chestnuts...
