I really must improve my B&W conversions Blush
I chose this one to convert because the contrasts between light and dark were pretty strong in the first place with daylight coming in from the left of the frame, hitting the different shapes.
I like the highlights on the 'weeds' and the edge of the book.

Thanks for taking the time to drop by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.
Be good, stay safe.

Any chance of the unconverted version as a mod or version? Could be fun to play with...

This is beautiful. Understated and ghostly.

You must remember to water your plants Janet. can photograph them like this and look how beautiful they become. Like someone left and never came back.

I am generally a colour kinda person but now and then I like to have a bash at a conversion, just to try and improve or do something different....and I'm bored with packing stuff up...keeps me quiet for a while Wink
Such a different image in mono and I see different things in each one. The version in colour here has not had anything done, no sharpening etc.
If anyone wants to have a play with the version, please do but, tell me what you did, else I will be non the wiser Sad

For me, the mono works best as I think it gives more mood and atmosphere.......!!

Had a go with the mono. The colour would not download for some reason Janet.
I have just lifted the shadows a touch and the whites and highlights slightly.
Added a slight texture to foreground and book, the vase.
I enjoyed that .....not done a mod for ages.
I hope you like it GrinGrin

Two mods offered - aiming for a little more contrast, but not too much - and a little brighter, but not too much of that, either...

In both cases, tweaks to brightness and contrast in Nik Efex, including opening the shadows/midtones/highlights sub-sliders.

Some nice mods, thanks guys.
John, to stop Nik taking over the end of the book, you gotta layer and mask luv ....hehehe Wink

No download for V2 Janet - switches us back to Lead image.
I like the light in your mono.

I took the version off because not allowed for download, you should be able to download Mod 2, the original colour frame.

I do like the colour version with its harmonious browns offset by the grey-blue book and well held highlights. Then I also like the different mood of the B&W. And of course the arrangement is excellent as always.

Definitely prefer the mono version but I'm thinking that something between your version and Fefee's mod would be better contrast wise.

The end of the book is just bright... Burning highlights in a bit would probably work, too!

Just throwing a few ideas out here.

You are probably right Dave, when faced with the slider thingies where do you stop....decisions, decisions ....too far and it's blown, not far enough and it's a million shades of grey.
I do struggle with B&W stuff and I envy folk who can just 'do it ' Sad

I like ideas John, keeps the old grey matter active Smile

Read the interesting comments and find I am agreeing with Dave. Your own version and the first modification by fefe work best for me.
