Weights and Measures.

By chase
A 3 frame HDR image combined in Lightroom, finished in Photoshop with fairly minimal faffing.
Lit by diffused daylight camera left.

I seem to have amassed more sets of weights than scales.....hmmmmmm Wink

I am struggling for subjects atm due to packing stuff away, I may have to resort to my precious oil cans to keep me out of mischief Wink

Thanks for dropping by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

I'm not moving and feel your pain...tried to get the dogs to pose but they were having none of it!

This is another one of your really well toned compositions Janet.

I wondered where our weights had gone...

They look very light weights or itís a very heavy single orange, Janet 😄 Very good still life here, bravo!

hi Janet - I liked the one with the peel a bit more...it had more of a 'patina' and depth due to the more subdued background to me...but I still like this one! Thanks Andy

A beautifully classic weights and measured shot, with an injection of lovely, vibrant orange.

The scales on the left are just same as my mum used when I were a lad! 😁👍 A fine presentation, Janet 👍

No-one has said it yet, so I'll do the deed - a very balanced image, Mighty J, despite the apparent imbalance between the two sides.
Try not to become totally unbalanced by the move...

What should i say after this, as Malc has taken my words before, love the idea...It apparently looks that the scene is within the dynamic range of a camera's ability to capture, does it require HDR...or it has become a style of your processing an image...in either way it is superb capture...Well Done...

Fabulous weights and scales - the oranges are perfect with the cool neutrals.

To answer your question.......the light from the window to camera left, despite being diffused with some old net, is generally fairly strong. With the lighter scales on the left there is a big chance of over exposure so, to even out the lighting I use HDR. Sometimes it works and sometimes not like everything photographic. On some occasions I take the frames, usually 3 one stop apart and then just use the one that gives me the effect I want but, with the three frames combined the dynamic range is much bigger...obviously...and I can choose where I want to take the image during post processing...darker, lighter etc, etc.

Question, if I didn't put my hand up to using HDR, would you know ?

I do like to tell though as it may, (or may not) help other folk and perhaps give them ideas and, depending on the subject(s) a gently processed HDR can bring out all the wonderful textures lurking in the subjects. If it's there to be had, I'm having it !! Wink

Lovely - one of your lighter images Janet.Smile I think ' A question of balance ' would be a good title here.
