West Ash in the Rain

By BlueRoom
Four versions in the development of a single image. The lead is the most extreme and was created while playing around with the final sepia version, V1. V2 is straight B&W, a necessary step on the way to V1, and V3 is the colour picture I started from. I think all four of these variations have their attractions and would be very interested to hear any thoughts you may have.

My special thanks to Alan, Phil and Sandy whose Awards have livened up my last posting.

V1 is my favourite, but I couldn't tell you why! BlushGrinGrinGrin

The vignette on the lead gives it that olde worlde feel, which on the face of it is very attractive... especially the way the tree branches are affected... but for me it seems slightly at odds with the fact that the tractor appears to be a fairly modern machine.
My vote goes to V1, definitely. The toning is lovely, and is there a touch of Orton filter? Or is it just the slight blur around the edges? Whatever, it all hangs together very well.

It's a fairly dark fractillius type layer Alan, that blurs out the detail allover. That's then slightly reduced in opacity and then lightly brushed out in varying degrees to control where the detail comes through strongest.
Thank you for your thoughts.
Great set, like the lead

V1 and V2 are my favourites. Good work on this.

I think they're all great but my preference is for v1 just because the darker edges keep my eyes on the central detail and the shine on the tractors tyres.
Good stuff with V1 favourite, possibly because of the excellent detail coupled with a 'glow effect' and a subtle vignette.

All three versions are excellent on their own, each bringing a different mood. The sepia,is my second choice,as it gives the feeling of viewing a subject from another era.
The colour version is my first choice, as it shows off the age of the house & barn with its old bricks & moss green barn doors, and also its newer windows, which lets us know that it has probably people living within,& is not abandoned. And then the more modern tractor, with its shiny wet rubber tires, gives us the feeling of a not to nice a weather day, located in what must be a rural location.
