West Kilbride

By Irishkate
En route to Portencross these trees have always caught my eye
but not being a driver, I didn't like to ask somebody else to stop, however
one of our other members with a good eye for a photo begged our driver to stop
and we managed a few hurried images with that mist over Arran.
The light changed very fast as you'll see in variations.
Thank you for vs and comments which were better than expected
for Portencross Pier - Dave I think your suggestion for a crop and keeping in the
blurry figures is a good one (how do you always see the best crop?) and a big thank you to Ryan
who seemed completely surprised by my efforts and gave me his precious User Award
which is very much appreciated considering some of the great material being uploaded.
I struggle to decide somedays between several superb images.

I have never seen the light as good as this when looking across to Arran, Kate: although there is low cloud across the island the air looks clear.
Every time I am down the coast there, there's a heavy sea haze almost obscuring the island.
I like all three and am torn over which I think is the best compositionally but would probably go for V 1.
However, I'd be happy if any one of them was my own.
Very well done for "hurried images".
Ronnie.

Beautiful landscape!
Exceptional dynamic range. Composure is perfect on all three but I like number one the most.

Oh Kate, these are absolutely and amazingly wonderful shots, there are so much to see and say for each of them, but the my mobile modem has started working too slow here. It takes ages to open and upload.

V1 is easily the winner here for me, composition excellent with the grass and low light shadows in the foreground, trees overlaying the beautiful sea and mountains and a fantastic sky, a real winner.
V2 Like the composition, the fence works well, I am picking up a bit of blur on the trees from the 1/10 shutter speed, some may say adds to the feeling of the image, not sure for me; still good image though.
V3 Fantastic sky and very good but composition for me not as strong as V1.
You really took advantage of the unusual and very dynamic lighting conditions here.

Stunning image. I love those trees but I have never been able to get a decent picture. V1 is the best of the 3.
24 Aug 2013 10:54AM
Here is a friends picture of those trees taken under similar conditions. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wytchwood/3682336699/ Cropping in further can give a nice composition although it would be a shame to lose those lovely coloured clouds at the top of the image.

Think it's got to be V2 for me as I didn't notice the mountains in V1.

I'm glad you stopped, this is well worth stopping for.
For me,V3 is the winner. I like the less symmetrical composition and the dramatic light.

I have probably told you before Kate,
I do not know Scotland at all.
If you told me this was the Serengeti Plains in Africa,
I would have believed you.
Super set,and fave is V3.
It has a more ''Serengeti'' look to it I think !!
Mick.
Fantastic trio Kate, I am having trouble deciding my favourite, if I was pushed I would say V3 for the more dramatic sky. Three superb shots taken in a hurry GrinGrinGrin

What a wonderful set Kate, i think v1 was the perfect choice as the lead. I only wish I had landscapes like this to photograph on my doorstep, the ones in the Cotswolds are all so twee and done to death
