A hugely impressive sky matched only by its reflections on those almost metallic sands. There was a danger of the pier being oerwhelmed by these remarkable features but I think you've judged it well.

Thanks everyone, especially Samsalt (via pm) and Kinfatric for pointing out the disparity between the reflection and the sky, showing up my (clumsy) attempts to tone down the brightest part of the sky. These are very useful critiques that will hopefully help me with my processing skills. Thanks.

Quote:especially Samsalt (via pm) and Kinfatric for pointing out the disparity between the reflection and the sky,

Why do it by PM, this is what is wrong with this site, because 19 people say they like it, nice shot etc, It is a great shot no dispute there by the way, people wont go against the grain and point out a slight oversight or missed spot for fear of being branded a bully just like pontybiker was.
Sorry for that Leigh, it is a good shot, and is getting my vote regardless.

Superb imagery. BTW, poetic license is allowed. People often tell me that "my" waterfalls are beautiful, and I generally reply that I had a lot of help from Nikon. A "perfect" image of what was there just wouldn't be as pretty.

Steve, I don't know pontybiker, but Samsalt has been hugely helpful to me, and I am very sure that the only reason he didn't make the comment in the comments here was to save my feelings. Perhaps others might benefit from the critique, but it was really intended for me, and the critique and advice was in fact given to me and taken on board. I don't think Sam is reluctant to give fair comment and helpful criticism.
I agree that constructive criticisms are helpful and should be welcomed, but many of us are rather sensitive and others fear causing offence.
I should think that positive advice would be welcomed in just about all cases, and I agree that it would be good to see much more of it in people's comment sections.

Another great image to add to your impressive portfolio. I prefere the sky in this shot to the last pier shot you uploaded as there seems to be less burnt out detail in this image and the slight saturation boost has brought out the colours well.
You don't say if you used a ND Grad. Filter but if you did not using one can help even out the exposure difference between the bright sky and the darker reflections.
