These whales were not seen on whale safaris - they were seen en route to other places within Greenland. The difficulties in photographing whales are obvious - the boat you're standing on is small and won't keep still, its cold, unlike TV crews you're only there for a short time, you've no idea where the next surfacing will occur, other people get in the way, the surfacing is over and done with in a matter of seconds. My approach is maybe a bit novel in that I film them at 1080p/60fps and then scan for the best frames. Obviously there's a quality loss but I think the composition benefit is a good compromise. I bought a Sony 4K camcorder earlier this year but Covid has denied me any opportunity to really test it yet.

A whale of a tale.

Did you shoot the videos with this camera also?

Happy New Year

Smile Yes same camera. Many thanks for the modification too - much appreciated. And complements of the season to you too Smile As I'm a bit obsessed with the arctic I've had it in mind to write a short photo book about it - so this site is accidentally helping me decide what to use and what to say about each photo. Would I have your permission to use your modifications please (with a credit note of course) - if I ever get around to it?
