Cerrig-y-Gof
The Five Neolithic Chambered Tombs are arranged in a circular pattern on a low mound with the open ends facing out.
The site was excavacated in the late 18th / early 19th century , when charcoal , pottery pieces from Urns , bones, and black sea pebbles were unearthed in the chambers. One of the Capstones is missing , the others dislodged. The 5 small rectangular stone burial chambers (Cists ) , stone built coffin like boxes ,
were originally set in a round barrow .
Possible english translations of Cerrig-Y-Gof :- 'Blacksmith's Stones', 'Rock of the Smith'.
