What goes up...

By mrswoolybill
What goes up must come down.
Late February; I was trespassing on Michal (mogobiker)'s Covent Garden territory here.
The cobbles were wet, hardly ideal for unicycling. He lasted long enough to light his torches, but not long enough to juggle. But he kept a hold of them when he fell to earth.
I started off composing for symmetry – the box of props on the left, the little boy from the audience on the right. (He earnt £5 for handing props up to the performer). But then symmetry went pear-shaped.
I liked the view of the audience. I was on my own behind the performance but it suited my purposes. Particularly when he fell off.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Ollie - I wonder when people will feel comfortable again, standing this close together?

Very good, Moira. We've not been there for a number of years and it's on our to do list if and when the current nightmare is over.

Some people take social distancing to the extreme. We were walking towards our home yesterday and a woman was walking towards us at a distance. She stopped briefly before crossing the road to the other side and when she passed us she crossed over again. The width of the pavement we were on is probably three times more than required for social distancing.

It would appear from the last image that whilst juggling was a diversion, budgie smuggling was his main intent!

Sorry, not enough tea coursing round this ancient wracked and somewhat wrinkly body yet, time to talk to my friend the jolly red teapot.

A great set of pictures, Covent Garden is a good place to wander.

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players,
They have their entrances and their exits..."

While entrances can be planned and rehearsed down to the final detail, some exits refuse to go to plan...

And picking up on Dave's ornithological comment;

"His youthful hose, well sav’d, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,"

Very well composed and great subject matter, Moira.
A pleasure to make it 30. (Are we still counting, by the way?)

the opening image reminds me of the ancient joke: how many police officers does it take to screw in a light bulb ... the answer is three: one to hold the light bulb, and two to rotate the ladder...
also, Dave has a strong point there about budgie smuggling ..
Smile
all in all, an excellent set, dear Moira

The wet cobbles add to this image Moira, and I like all of your set here, V5 looks as though he is about to set his hair on fire !!
Really good clarity and a spot on conversion.
Lots of fab expressions.
Well composed and very well exposed.

I like v3 & 4 for the lack of symmetry which gives a better balance.....does that make sense?

Alternatively, you've given Covent Garden a certain 'it's grim up North' feel to the images.

I'm so glad we weren't disappointed in V5! I love how he's turned around to look towards you! 😁 It's certainly a great location for street entertainers (Punch & Judy shows in this country originated just a few metres from this spot), and with its speciality shops too, well worth a trip around. The Punch & Judy pub's a good watering-hole too 🍺 Sadly, we won't see it like this for quite a while 😢

It makes me sad viewing this, as I will miss my annual visit to the Fringe in Edinburgh this year, where this type of scene can be captured. Alas, now gone the way of all entertainment this summer.
A super sequence of the artist's show and especially capturing it from behind the entertainer and showing the audience as well.

Unicycling on uneven cobbled streets is a challenge in itself, doing it on wet cobbles is
an altogether different feat. Speaking of feet, his do appear to be rather large (v5), which
leads to another, best unanswered, question about the smuggled budgie.
An excellent set Moira. SmileSmile

Last year I stood in Keswick Market Square, alone in the rain, listening to an old man playing Duke Ellington on a clarinet.
He played "Sophisticated Lady" for me when I asked, but wouldn't take my money... played it just for the love of it.
Such people, like your performer here, are to be treasured.

for these I seem to have a preference for the balanced ones. Not easy to take a convincing shot of street performers, but these are good.
