'When I Grow Up'

By TrevBatWCC
Another sculpture I came across in the centre of Ramsey. It's a life-sized bronze sculpture that depicts a small boy with bare feet wearing his father's RNLI jacket and life-jacket which is positioned outside Ramsey's RNLI shop. There was an inscribed plaque around the side and on the base of the sculpture (see the version).
The sculpture was more or less black and the coloured wall behind was a bit distracting, so again, it's back to mono mode 😁
Feeling rather depressed after hearing on Friday that the company that owns Shearings Coach Holidays, who I have been travelling with since 1995, both in Britain and the Continent, has gone into administration. So, there's no Christmas holiday this year, which I booked back in January. This and my next upload from my Isle of Man holiday will, therefore, be the last ever taken on a Shearings holiday 😥

Many thanks to Dave (HobbitDave), Kate (Irishkate), Sylvia (Sylviwhalley), Geoff (simmo 73), Richard (DicksPics), Lory and Lin (sweetpea62) for their User Awards on my previous upload, A Game of Chess , and also special thanks to Carole (Monochrome 2004) for her Guest Editor Award, most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw image processed in Nikon Capture NX-D, mono conversion in Nik Collection's Silver Efex Pro 2, and tweaked Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😀👍

What a great tribute to this marvelous organisation, Trev.
Yes, I was a Shearing's veteran also.

Great capture of this lovely sculpture, very appropriate. Sorry to hear about your holiday disappointment, we have travelled with Shearings in the past, I hope when we are back to some kind of "normal" there will be some other company taking their place.

Yes so many Companies are affected, the travel industry is suffering. We will all have to wait till next year to resume holiday travel.

While we have no experience of Shearings, all our battlefield visits have been by coach; we have another booked for October and are naturally concerned that other companies may go the same way. It's impossible imho to apply social distancing without reducing the complement of a coach to maybe 30%; even with 1m distancing I can't see such trips breaking even. 14 days' quarantine afterwards would be the final straw (for a battlefields trip make that the Last Post . . . . )

I'm sure all regular coach travellers will be sharing your pain, Trev, as we do. Thanks for flagging this up to a wider public.

Regards
Bill

Magnificent sculpture Trev. Must admit I thought of you when the news came out about Shearings. When this is over
the World will be a different place. Maybe Spice Island one day ?
Stay safe and sane,

A family matter...all respect to the RNLI volunteers who have to go and rescue stupid people who are STILL going out on kayaks and jetskis...

Sad too about Shearings...travelled with them many years ago, always delivered...hope someone with lots of money will buy the assets and goodwill..

Great image..stay safe 😁

Amazing sculpture Trev.
Had an email from Glenton Tours saying they hoped to ride the storm.
Depending who owned Shearings coaches - the vehicles will still be around
and plenty of people with expertise in running companies like Shearings,
so I'm sure they'll reemerge as many failed businesses do.
Did you have special privileges as a long time customer?
