When life mattered

By G3
Saw a Volvo rally car here a bit ago. It stirred many fond memories. I designed/built/drove this car for the best four years of my life. That big thing behind me in the pic is a Corvette that I just passed-we used to refer to them as pollyester pacakaderms as they were always in the way. The years since racing days have been quite empty.
I`ve noticed a couple comments down a mention of weight. This car was fully optimized to what the rules would allow. That included---four wheel disk brakes---Halabrand quick change rear---B20 engine--coil over shocks all four corners --- and lighted to 2020LB. Min weight for this car was it was as light as it could be...........
Ok--time for an update..comment was made of this fine car`s race history.. In four years of competition it never won but NEVER finished less than fourth. With a better driver than me it could have done much better

excellent action shot, love it, was it one of your mates that took the pic or a newspaper man, of course, they could both be the sameSmile Reminds me of when we used to go stock car racing in the early 60s, they were beautiful cars.

Thanks for visit to my Reeds.. You know, I'd have thought you would be interested in my little series of tools.

...& my vote makes a nice, round 100!!

Like the shot & the memory. I love hearing the story behind a shot, when there is one.

An unusual choice for a racing car, I'd have thought. A Volvo isn't the first thing to come to mind when you think fast car.

You don't mention how successful you were.

Since you obviously enjoyed it, why give up? surely they run veterans races, if you feel you're too old to compete with the young bucks?

Reminds me of the car I traveled in Japan and the US in the early 60's. Man what a car. It survived my parents, my brother and I and 3 engines, all told 625,000 miles before it was scrapped, and my folks bought it used. What a Car.
