Where Now?

By Minty805
This is a rejig of an image I put up briefly some time ago, but then took down. I did so partly because I was unhappy with the finished item, but also as I have a concern about taking pictures of children (apart from family, and for sadly obvious reasons). As far as the latter is concerned, in reality this is a random picture of an anonymous child on a beach, seen as we were passing by on a high path, and perfectly harmless. I suppose it is a sad reflection on where we are that I even thought like that.
Technically, I have readjusted the image with Tonality Pro and Affinity, to give a darker, more moody and contrasty appearance, in keeping with the effect I was after.
I took the shot last year, just thinking it looked quite nice, with the child gazing wistfully out to sea, but now, of course, it seems like a metaphor for our troubled world, and makes me wonder what the young generation will face in terms of health, climate and politics over their lifetimes, and how much they will blame us for leaving the world in the state we have.
Sorry to be downbeat, but hopefully our symbolic child is seeing something brighter...
Thanks for looking,
Allan

She looks as if she has just arrived on the beach, all excited, only to find the tide is out and the sea is several hundred metres away.Wink

A lovely and extremely poignant image, Allan, and an excellent narrative to boot.

I like the solitary subject and placing, and the trees frame it all very well 👍

This is such a nicely framed image Allan, beautifully photographed and presented. Mono suits it perfectly.

A timeless image, which could have come from almost any period in the last hundred years or more. Very evocative of childhood wonder when everything is fresh.

Is it not a sad reflection on the World today? In my early days in a camera club, you would find lots of photographs of children playing, at the seaside in costumes and some without but you did not think anything about it. Now, you can lose your good name if spotted, even although the end result is quite innocuous. I took an image, a while ago, of kids clambering over a sculpture in the park and when viewed, one girl's skirt had ridden up showing off her underwear. I had to clone in her skirt to mask it off.
Getting back to your image. I find your title suits the subject and gets you thinking "where is she going" and nicely presented.

Wanted to give this a UA yesterday but I was fresh out. Smile
Itís a great image Alan but sadly you are quite right photographers have to think twice where children
are involved
Carole
I suspect that with the child's face not showing, this one might be less of an issue, Alan.
