Whitby Abbey at Night

By DaveMead
Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the kind comments and clicks for 'Farndale Sunrise I', much appreciated as always.
Tonight's is from a week last Thursday and my trip to Kettleness for the sunset followed by some night shots at Whitby with Scotty (stephenscott). The funny thing about going out taking pictures with someone nearly half your age is that you end up doing stuff you wouldn't do if you were on your own. This may, or may not, have included scrabbling over a 7 foot high wall with all my gear in the pitch dark without a torch to get the classic night shot of Whitby Abbey. It depends who's asking. Wink
I hope you've all had a great weekend.
Dave

Scotty leading you astray is giving you some varied shots and some great opportunities.... I love the light in this one - it is a stunning capture- inspires me to get out - but as you say on your own it is not the same. Smile
very well done Dave

Strangely I've been to Whitby 3 times but never got a decent shot of the Abbey, also I've never seen a shot of this a night/dusk. Well worth the scramble for a shot as good as this, sell it the National Trust/Tourist Board, you could make a few bob.

I know it's cheating a bit, but I've done it myself, you can cut down the area of darkness/shadow between the reflection and actual abbey, the result can be quite effective as it removes/reduces an area of very little interest.

I clicked on this image yesterday, but feel it was rude not to comment on what a great shot this is, not only from the photography point of view, composition and lighting is superb, but the fact you have scaled the wall to get in after nightfall......and its closed. I MUST do this.
