Whitchurch Silk Mill 2

By pamelajean
2 further versions from the silk mill.

Hereís the previous information again:-
This is the oldest working silk mill in the UK (built 1814) still weaving in its original building.
Itís a Georgian water mill that weaves silk using 19th century machinery and looms.
This is silk weaving the traditional way.
Warping and Winding: This is where silk production begins at the Mill. Silk hanks, slips or skeins (loose yarn) arrive pre-dyed if required. The water wheel powered warping machines are used to produce the warp thread (the lengthways yarns) which is then taken downstairs on a beam to the weaving shed.
A typical production run on this floor will take 12 weeks, thatís 90% of the millís overall production process from the arrival of the silk to the finished woven fabric.
