Nice composition but a bit dark and could do with a bit more 'pop' have uploaded a possible mod.

I agree with Andy that it could do with lightening up a bit along the lines of his mod. I agree with him also that it is a nice composition but I think it could be improved by cropping the shot across the top of the tree in the background. This focuses the attention of the viewer on the boat. At the moment the shot is divided more or less into two halves and there is not much happening in the top part.

Potentially an interesting shot but needs a bit more work.

I think the lighting is quite nice in this but you need to measure the exposure values more carefully next time, the shot is underexposed overall, but not by too much as its those soft tones on the boat which you need to focus on & they too are not at their best. The mod certainly helps things but i think maybe it could be pushed a little more.

Composition wise this is interesting but i think maybe it would suit a landscape format more. less sky more boat & reeds - Nearly there with this one but more involved camera work needed.

I really appreciate the critiques - thanks for taking the time and trouble to comment and suggest improvements and modifications. I'm just starting out with DSLR so a lot to learn!

Hi Mary
I know how difficult this boat was to photograph with the bright morning sun catching a very white boat and the awkward position of it. You have done well with the composition but the image is slightly underexposed I feel you could of increased it a bit and still got all the detail in the boat.
I am not sure what post processing you have done as the image looks very flat and unprocessed. I have put up a not very good mod but as with the other mods it will give you an idea. I altered the WB - a tad too green in my case, then I increased the exposure to lighten it and played with curves to give it contrast, also took a bit off the top.
Hope this helps Mary.
