White cheeked Turaco

By MikeRC
Hello again...
Many thanks for your clicks and kind comments on my recent pictures.
This is another shot from Lotherton.
In flight, the colours of this bird are stunning, unfortunately this is the closest I could get to flight.
I have altered the background to take out all the greenery.

I suggest that you alter the background so that it isn't a colour that clashes with the blue of the bird.

Hold on I'll have a go

Nick...I like your modification, but is it better? I did toy with other coloured bgs. but non appeared natural, at least the blue gives a degree of authenticity.
I have long grappled with this problem of factualness versus artistry and I would really like to know what others think.

The other option is to go for a background from another shot, or keep the one it had but just burn it out a bit to make it less obtrusive?

The problem (for me) with your blue, over the obviously artificial colour of mine, is that it is trying to look like sky but misses, the light on the bird is wrong for that sky. If you are going to change the background for something else that you want to look like it was actually there it needs to match.

All just my opinion of course

19 Jan 2006 2:36AM bg. trying to look like sky, is in fact sky (grin) one of many shots of sky I have taken at various times over the years.
Does it not look sky blue?
Would it look better with wisps of cloud?
Do colours look different on different monitors?
It certainly does not look like sky printed out but that's another story.

It doesn't look like sky in this shot because the lighting for the sky and the bird don't match to my eye.
Colours look different on different monitors for sure. Depemds on calibration and colour space.

Mike - I'm not sure its a great photograph but its a cracking image all the same. It looks almost like a piece of high-quality airbrush art to me - I like it a lot

What a good image. All those wonderful colours. I love the way you have caught him with his tail feathers fanned out.
The Mod looks good as well, the black background does bring out the colour of the bird, but it's a lot of work!!!
